I have since completed a certificate in Digital Marketing through Google Squared and continue to develop my skills every day. I have a strong passion for creating content that is brand focused, sharing trending and relevant content and ensuring that our staff, our clients and anyone interested in Cavity are always in mind.

I began my dental career as a student Dental Nurse at Newcastle upon Tyne Dental Hospital in 1987. I qualified in 1989 with what was the NEBDSA qualification, now recognised as NEBDN.

In 1990 I married a soldier and moved to Germany where I spent 5 years working in an Army dental centre with the Royal Army Dental Corps. We treat soldiers and their families, any visiting troops from the UK and any NATO troops on exercise. It was a very interesting and varied job as we did everything from RA sedation to old fashioned orthodontics, oral surgery and everything in between. An invaluable learning experience and I loved every minute of it.

On return to UK our posting was to Winchester, so I took a position with the Community Dental Services in Southampton, and then Community Dental Services in Winchester where I stayed until our next posting.

I then left dentistry behind only to return around 12 years later working in a practice that specialised in implants – another massive learning curve and a local dental practice.

And then in 2015 I was given the opportunity to join Cavity and so here we are!

I have lived in England, Wales, Scotland, Germany twice, and Cyprus and have been fortunate to travel to many other countries.

You will find me during football season sat in my seat at St James’ Park watching my football team Newcastle United whose matches I have followed since I was about 7 years old!

I started work in a small NHS practice in Southport which I enjoyed and stayed for a couple of years.

I then moved practices once I’d had my eldest so I could work part-time whilst he was young. I then stayed in that practice for 25 years, becoming the PM along the way.

When the principle retired I decided it was time for a change and locummed on a military base as a civilian for six months, the contract was then extended for another 3 months. I loved working for the military and had a wonderful time, so much so, that I decided I wanted to try locumming as a more permanent job. So I joined Cavity and the rest is history.

I had the opportunity to become Area Manager in Nov 2019 when Abbie moved to France. I stayed in that position throughout Covid extending my skill set to include Fit Testing and became accredited with Fit2Fit through Cavity.

Due to a reshuffle within the senior management team earlier this year, I moved over to look after the Dentists, Hygienists and Therapists. Abbie, Sara and I are hoping to continue growing the team. We have nearly doubled in size this year alone.

When I am not working, I love to walk my Labrador Poppy on the beach, which is a short walk from home. I have recently gone back to playing badminton after a considerable break, something my mind is loving but my body is not quite so happy about.

the “Cavity way”- we love this! And certainly speaks volumes to our hardworking teams. Thank You!

“I would highly recommend being a locum Dental Nurse. I enjoy the challenge of working with different team members and seeing how each practice runs their day to day clinics. No practice is the same and that’s what makes being a locum Dental Nurse interesting . I’ve been a member of the Cavity team for just over a year and I’m loving every minute of it; from the standby days that keep me guessing if I’m going to be called to travelling on the motorway or being stuck on a country road behind a tractor!! It’s the thank yous at the end of the day from both the dental practices and Cavity team that make look forward to my next place of work. So if your thinking of being a locum then do it and do it with the best team – Cavity.”

Dear Rachel, thank you so much for your recommendation and singing our praises and that you feel valued and appreciated not only from Cavity but from the practices you visit as well. Go Team Cavity!

A truly amazing team is hard to find, difficult to part with and impossible to forget, I had a great time at ********  Dental Practice.

It’s wonderful to hear that you had a memorable work day that left you smiling.
